Les élèves de 1ère année français BRIT ont fêté La Chandeleur avec leurs copains du collège Río Ebro.

Ils nous offert des crêpes et nous, on a élaboré des toques pour eux. On s’est bien régalés!

On Friday 24th January the hall at Élaios High School was transformed into an Australian beach to commemorate Australia Day, which is celebrated on 26th January in Australia. Our Aussie assistant this year joined the celebrations and students had some photos taken on «our Aussie beach» and they chose their favourite background thanks to the use of Chroma. Moreover, we could all enjoy some typical Australian music like «Waltzing Matilda». It was an awesome experience that allowed the students to know a little bit more about Australia, our assistant’s country.

Students have done some research on how Christmas is celebrated in the world; on the one hand, students of French decided to work on Christmas celebrations in the French-speaking Europe and on the other hand, students of English focused on Christmas in the rest of the English-speaking countries in the world.

Nos élèves ont travaillé sur Noël. Comment fête-t-on Noël dans le monde? Les élèves de français ont travaillé sur les traditions de Noël dans les pays francophones européens et les élèves d’anglais ont fait des affiches sur Noël dans les pays anglophones dans le monde.

Students of English have been learning more about the celebration of Thanksgiving Day in the USA, every fourth Thursday in November. In the first year pupils have been shown the different traditions to celebrate it, whereas in the second year students have looked into the history behind this important date.

La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas asumió el 25 de noviembre como Día Internacional para la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la mujer.

Su origen remonta a 1960, fecha en que fueron asesinadas las tres hermanas Mirabal, que luchaban por sus derechos en la República Dominicana. Se convirtieron desde entonces en un símbolo para erradicar esta plaga que supone la violencia contra la mujer.

Hemos celebrado este día con actividades de sensibilización, haciendo carteles y colocando palabras clave en francés, inglés y español.

L’Organisation des Nations unies (ONU) a fait du 25 novembre la Journée Internationale pour l’Élimination de la Violence contre les Femmes.

Son origine remonte à 1960, lorsqu’en République Dominicaine les sœurs Mirabal furent assassinées parce qu’elles militaient pour leurs droits.

Elles sont devenues alors les symboles du combat pour éradiquer ce fléau qu’est la violence à l’égard des femmes.

Nous avons célébré cette journée de sensibilisation avec des affiches imprimées de slogans et des mots-clés en français, anglais et espagnol.

The United Nations (UN) declared 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Its origins date back from 1960, when the Mirabal sisters were murdered while they were fighting for their rights in the Dominican Republic. As a consequence, they became the symbol to root out the scourge of the violence against women.

We have commemorated this day with awareness exercises, posters with slogans and key words in English, French and Spanish.

Los dos programas BRIT han preparado conjuntamente una jornada de celebración del día de Todos los Santos. El centro se ha decorado para la ocasión (trabajo realizado por La Voz del Élaios) y en la biblioteca se ha preparado un “rincón oscuro” dedicado a narrar historias y cuentos de terror en inglés y en francés. La celebración de la noche de difuntos permite conocer cómo cada cultura ha afrontado tradicionalmente el más allá y cómo se representa en nuestros días.

First and second of ESO students of English and French belonging to the BRIT, English Plus or the bilingual French programmes have been working together on the celebration of Halloween and La Toussaint in English- and French-speaking countries. In order to do that, first they did some research to decorate and transform our hall and our library at Élaios High School. Second, and most important, they “dared” both to perform and read horror stories (in French and English) in the spooky “dark corner” of our library on 31^st October. The analysis of both festivals (Halloween and La Toussaint) shows how the French and the Anglo-Saxon culture have faced Death itself and the ways to link pagan traditions with religion in the present-day world.

Les élèves des deux programmes BRIT (anglais, 1^ère année et français, 2^ème année) et les élèves du programme English Plus ont préparé ensemble une activité pour fêter Halloween et connaître la tradition de la Toussaint en France.

L’équipe de La Voz del Élaios , journal en ligne de notre lycée a décoré le hall et à la Bibliothèque nous avons créé un « coin lecture halloween  »où nos élèves ont raconté des histoires qui font peur en anglais et en français.

Ces activités ont servi à montrer comment chaque pays a interprété cette fête et en France la Toussaint et Halloween sont donc deux fêtes bien distinctes.

La Toussaint est une fête traditionnelle et religieuse d’hommage aux défunts alors qu’Halloween est une fête celte.
